Job Overview

Rapidemic is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Industrial Design Engineer Intern to join our Engineering Team. This internship offers hands-on experience in the medical device industry, providing exposure to the design and development process from concept to production. The intern will assist in creating ergonomic, user-friendly, and aesthetically refined medical products that enhance the user experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the industrial design process from concept development to final design validation.
• Develop sketches, concept renderings, and 3D models for new in-vitro diagnostic devices.
• Assist in Usability studies to ensure usability and safety compliance.
• Create and refine prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, low scale injection molding, and other rapid prototyping techniques.
• Conduct design research, including benchmarking, materials selection, and trend analysis.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, regulatory teams, and manufacturing partners to ensure seamless product development.
• Assist in preparing design documentation, including technical drawings and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support testing and validation efforts, including user studies and functional testing.
• Participate in project meetings, contribute ideas, and present findings.

Qualifications & Skills

• Educational Background:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
• Skills:
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Fusion 360, Solidworks, Siemens NX, or similar.

• Experience with concept rendering design software.
• Knowledge of rapid prototyping methods, including 3D printing and material selection.
• Understanding of ergonomics, user-centered design. Knowledge of medical device usability standards (e.g., IEC 62366-1) is a plus.

• Passionate about creating innovative technology.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with focus on high-quality results.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.           
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
