Location: BioPartner 3, Leiden Bioscience  Park, Zuid-Holland.

Modality: On-site. 1 day/week remote possible.

Contract: Temporary, 1 year contract with possible extension

Job Overview

Rapidemic is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Biomedical Systems Engineer (BSE) to join our Engineering team. As a BSE, you will have the opportunity to work on the development and optimization of cutting-edge In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) medical devices. This role will provide hands-on experience in system engineering, contributing to projects that are critical to the advancement of healthcare technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead component and subsystems development of IVD devices and microfluidic systems, including hardware, and assay integration.
  • General support of product research and development activities, design of experimental set ups and protocols, as well as execution and proper documentation.
  • Prototypes and hardware troubleshooting, analyze data, derive conclusions, document findings, write SOPs and prepare reports for sharing within and between teams.
  • Participate in decision-making process based on experimental and strategic data.
  • Provide inputs for the development of technical documentation required by regulatory bodies, such as product requirements, risk management file, usability, etc.
  • Participate in project meetings, contribute ideas, and present findings.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Educational Background:
    • B.S. degree in the chemistry/science/engineering required and 3-5 years of experience or M.S. degree with 2 years. PhD with 1+ year related experience.
  • Skills:
    • Have experience with medical devices and/or in-vitro diagnostics devices design and development, design controls, and industry standards and regulations in highly regulated markets. Experience with LMICs is a plus.
    • Previous laboratory experience required. Experience in molecular biology laboratories or clean room workflows is a plus.
    • Previous experience with prototype device development and testing is required. Experience with electronic and mechanical testing preferred. Experience with lateral flow microfluidics is a plus.
    • Familiarity with Python programming languages, ability to troubleshoot and debug basic firmware and code testing scripts routines.
    • Proven experience with CAD tools such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks or similar. Experience with CFD simulation is a plus.
    • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques is required. Experience with injection molding process is a plus.
    • Experience with statistical tools and Design of Experiments (DoE) methodology is a plus.
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Open for feedback.
    • Strong communication collaboration and alignment skills while working with multiple stakeholders and diverse teams (internal and external).

    • Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
